Key Highlights from the CSR Program of United Breweries for FY 23-24

CSR Program of United Breweries


United Breweries Limited (UBL) has launched a comprehensive range of CSR programs for FY 23-24, strategically aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These CSR Program of United Breweries focus on water conservation, community development, women's empowerment, and environmental stewardship, reflecting UBL's commitment to sustainable development through balancing commercial success with social and environmental responsibility.


1. Jal Samwardhan (Water Conservation)


In collaboration with Dilasa Janvikas Pratishthan, UBL's project in Pale Khurd village, Maharashtra, focuses on rejuvenating the village pond and building a cement nala bund to enhance water availability. This initiative directly supports SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) by improving water management systems, which is crucial for addressing climate change impacts in India.


2. Provision of RO Water Purifiers


UBL has taken direct initiative in Karnataka to install RO water purifiers with coolers in 15 institutions. This project aligns with SDG 6 by ensuring access to safe and affordable drinking water, addressing one of the critical climate change causes through improved water purification technology.


3. Water Conservation Projects



CSR Program of United Breweries


Partnering with Action for Food Production (AFPRO) and SM Sehgal Foundation, UBL is engaged in multiple phases of water conservation projects across Punjab and Rajasthan. These projects aim to increase groundwater recharge, demonstrating UBL's commitment to tackling climate change reasons by enhancing water conservation and management.


4. Jal Sanchay, Jal Shakti, and Jal Khushali


These projects across Karnataka, Telangana, and Rajasthan focus on rejuvenating water tanks and ponds to improve water storage and groundwater recharge. They are pivotal in UBL's strategy to mitigate climate change impact, especially in over-exploited regions, ensuring sustainability and community engagement in water resource management.


5. Jal Unnati


This new multi-year project in Karnataka aims to conserve water through the construction of artificial recharge structures and the renovation of irrigation facilities. It exemplifies how CSR funds in India can be effectively utilized to address specific local environmental challenges related to water scarcity.


6. SAKhEE CSR Program of United Breweries


In Odisha, UBL’s project aims to empower marginalized women by enhancing their skills and providing access to social security entitlements. This initiative supports SDG 5 (Gender Equality), proving that CSR fund company efforts can also focus on social empowerment alongside environmental goals.


7. Project Oxygen Zone


Using the Miyawaki technique, UBL plans to develop an urban native forest in Maharashtra, planting 50,000 trees of native species. This project contributes to SDG 13 (Climate Action) by improving green cover and biodiversity, directly tackling what is climate change and its effects on urban areas.


8. Haritha Samruddhi Phase 2


Continuing its commitment in Kerala, this project focuses on water conservation and developing an Oxygen belt using Miyawaki plantation, highlighting the innovative approaches in CSR funds in India to combat climate change.


9. Kartavya


In Punjab, this project addresses social issues such as excessive alcohol consumption and responsible hosting, impacting SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and showing the broader scope of CSR initiatives that address both environmental and social challenges.


10. Support in Construction of Badminton Courts


By constructing badminton courts in West Bengal, UBL supports SDG 3 and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), promoting sports and healthy lifestyles, and contributing to community development.
