Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), a Maharatna company, has aligned its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR Program of ONGC) activities for FY 23-24 with the broader objectives of addressing community welfare through sustainable development initiatives. These initiatives are particularly focused on health, education, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure development. ONGC’s dedication to these areas not only supports the organization's commitment to social welfare but also significantly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CSR Program of ONGC and their Contribution to the UN SDGs:

1. Health Care Initiatives:

ONGC has been involved in significant health care projects, such as the establishment of multi-specialty hospitals and mobile medical units. These initiatives target SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by providing affordable and accessible health care to underprivileged communities, significantly in the Northeast region of India.

2. Education and Skill Development:

By focusing on improving educational infrastructure and providing skill development training, ONGC contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Initiatives like "ONGC Super 30" help economically disadvantaged students gain access to quality education and career opportunities in engineering and other fields.

3. Environmental Sustainability:

ONGC has invested in various environmental sustainability projects, including water purification installations, solar electrification, and the Clean Himalayas Initiative. These projects support SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). Their efforts in river cleaning and waste management also contribute to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

4. Community Development and Rural Infrastructure:

ONGC’s efforts in rural development, such as building community centers and supporting organic farming, align with SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). These initiatives ensure that basic amenities and economic opportunities are available to rural populations, fostering sustainable community growth.

5. Promotion of Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment:

Through various initiatives aimed at improving the health and educational status of women and girls, such as the Project Sakhi for menstrual hygiene, ONGC contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality). These programs help in empowering women and girls by providing them with health resources and educational opportunities.

6. Support for Heritage and Cultural Conservation:

The restoration of heritage structures and the promotion of cultural heritage in Varanasi and other locations demonstrate ONGC’s commitment to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Preserving cultural heritage plays a crucial role in maintaining community identity and promoting tourism, which in turn supports local economies.
